Alpaca fleece is prized for its silkiness and warmth, but you don’t tend to think about the animals that produce it when you slip into an alpaca sweater or toss on a scarf. You’ll get to experience the fiber if you visit “Discover Alpacas: ‘Paca to Product” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at TACtile, 1955 S. Quince St. Animals will be displayed outside the facility, while inside, fiber artists will be felting, spinning, weaving, dyeing and making items with raw alpaca fibers. Among the artists doing demonstrations will be Weldon Walker weaving scarves; Sue Lindt demonstrating on the triangle loom; Cheri Paxson showing microwave dyeing or knitting; Deb Tewell working on wet/needle felted projects; and Barb DeDecker demonstrating yarn spinning.
