Kiplinger.com has named Colorado Springs as one of “10 Great Cities for College Grads.”

Kiplinger crafted the list by looking at the state of the economy, along with “factors of interest to the post-grad set,” such as rent affordability, access to public transportation, overall cost of living, culture, nightlife and the percentage of people ages 20 to 24. Other cities on the list include New York City; Charlotte, N.C.; Baltimore; Washington, D.C.; Omaha, Neb.; Seattle; Boston, San Francisco; and Philadelphia. Cities were not ranked in order.

The Springs’ lofty listing comes even though community leaders have expressed concern over so-called brain drain, with young professionals leaving the area for better job opportunities and a hipper place to live.

That was a topic of discussion during the recent mayoral campaign; Steve Bach, who won Tuesday’s historic vote to elect the city’s first strong mayor, said at a forum this month that he would lead the charge to get more venture capital in the Springs and that he would promote mass transit and activities to attract people downtown.
