DENVER—Parents of Douglas County fourth-graders who appeared at a press conference at the Colorado Capitol Monday in support of a tax increase are complaining they were never asked permission for their children to be part of the event.
The Denver Post reports that Douglas County school officials said they got complaints after children touring the Capitol from a fourth-grade class at Wildcat Mountain Elementary in Littleton were asked to stand behind state Sen. Rollie Heath, D-Boulder, as he detailed his proposal to ask voters in November to approve a five-year, $3 billion tax increase for education.
School district spokesman Randy Barber says the district requires parental consent for political activities.
Heath says he didn’t ask the students to appear and didn’t know who did.
