The reigning Major League Soccer champion Rapids were placed in Group B for the 2011-12 CONCACAF Champions League during a draw Wednesday in New York.

The only other team so far in Group B is Real España of Honduras. Teams for the remaining two slots in Group B have yet to be determined.

Preliminary round matches will be played July 26-28 (first leg) and Aug. 2-4 (second leg). The group stage is tentatively scheduled to start Aug. 16-18.

Skyhawks stay alive in NCAA golf.

Fort Lewis advanced to team match play at the men’s NCAA Division II golf championships in Florence, Ala., by finishing the third round of medal play Wednesday tied for seventh. The top eight teams advanced to quarterfinal match play, which begins today. CSU-Pueblo finished 14th in the 20-team field. Fort Lewis senior Gavin Lyons of Scottsdale, Ariz., and CSU-Pueblo freshman Jonathan Park, from Overland High School, were among five golfers who tied for 16th at 4-over-par 220 for three rounds. Lyons, who shared the first-round lead with a 3-under 69, closed with a 71.

CSU advances in club lacrosse.

Austin Fisher’s four goals fueled Colorado State’s club lacrosse team to a 14-9 win over Boston College in the quarterfinals of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association national tournament at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Cooper Kehoe had two goals and two assists for the Rams, who play Brigham Young in the first semifinal Friday. Michigan and Arizona State meet in the second semifinal.

Bitter signs.

The Denver Outlaws of Major League Lacrosse signed their top draft choice, attackman Billy Bitter. Bitter was an All-American at North Carolina.
