She’s feelin’ all right.
Lulu is the 11-year-old doggie of Fred and Jana Bartlit — and one of the great canine hostesses in Castle Rock, if not all of Colorado.
Every year, the pooch hosts “Lulu’s Barkin’ BBQ,” with special Q brought in from Texas by master chef Tom Perini. Along with that comes a concert from a top artist. This year, it’s the 10th anniversary of the barbecue — Aug. 27 with Joe Cocker. Tix are $350, with all proceeds going to the Dumb Friends League.
Former performers include Little Richard, Lionel Richie, Chris Isaak, Dwight Yoakam, Cyndi Lauper and Patti LaBelle. That’s some hit parade for a backyard barbecue.
“It’s a lot of work, but it’s a lot of fun,” says Jana. “We want to raise awareness for homeless pets and their needs, and we’re fortunate enough to do this. We wanted to make it special this year, and I think we’ve achieved that with Joe.”

Getting hitched.
Local chanteuse Lannie Garrett and 5280 publisher/editor Dan Brogan are set to get married Sept. 17 — a small ceremony in a small town, so don’t be looking too hard for an invitation.
They became engaged over dinner at Barolo on Dec. 22, 2009 — so it doesn’t look like anyone’s feet got cold. Barolo was the site of their second date and first kiss. Awwww.
The ceremony will be small, but I am egging them on to throw a big party at Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret. After all, they are Denver’s newest power couple and they know everyone in town.
The Rapture.
OK, the world may end Saturday, or so say some high-strung evangelists. Might as well go out with a bang — as a lot is going on in town besides the end of days.
U2 and the Fray are at Invesco Field. Native boy T.J. Miller, now an emerging Hollywood actor, is taping (twice) a Comedy Central special, “No Real Reason,” at the Boulder Theater. Paula Poundstone is at Boulder’s Chautauqua Auditorium. The Botanic Bow Wow welcomes your doggies 8 a.m. to noon at Denver Botanic Gardens. And the Denver Art Museum hosts MAD About DAM, a “Mad Men”-themed party.
Loco fast.
Tickets for the 20th Denver Post Cheyenne Frontier Days Train were gone in 64 minutes, the fastest sellout of the historic ride. The Union Pacific’s historic locomotive 844 steam engine pulls out at 7 a.m. July 23.
