FORT CARSON, Colo.—The Army says a Fort Carson support battalion in Afghanistan has performed more than 320 resupply missions from its home base in Kandahar since it arrived about a year ago.

The Army said this week the 4th Brigade Support Battalion, part of the 4th Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team, also had to refurbish Forward Operating Base Walton, its base camp.

Battalion commanders say the base was cramped, overflowing with sewage and vulnerable to attack when the unit arrived. Command Sgt. Maj. Kevin Tatem now describes it as an oasis for soldiers who go there to rest and replenish their supplies.

The battalion has also sent specialists in physical therapy, preventive medicine, behavior health and other areas on more than 40 tours of combat posts and other forward operating bases.
