Senior attackman Todd Baxter, who made a gutsy and productive return to the University of Denver lineup Saturday against Johns Hopkins in the quarterfinals of the NCAA men’s lacrosse tournament, won’t be practicing much if at all before the Pioneers’ semifinal match against Virginia in Baltimore this weekend.
Just two weeks after suffering a knee injury and high-ankle sprain, Baxter tied midfielder Cameron Flint with a team-high three goals in DU’s 14-9 upset of Johns Hopkins in Hempstead, N.Y.
“He didn’t practice last week,” DU coach Bill Tierney said of Baxter, “so why bother this week? I figure if he can get three goals without practicing, we have to keep doing what we’re doing.”
Baxter didn’t play when the Pioneers beat Villanova 13-10 in their NCAA Tournament opener. Mike Chambers, The Denver Post
