PUEBLO, Colo.—A young bear had to be tranquilized after it wandered past an elementary school and homes on Pueblo’s South Side for a couple of hours.

Colorado Division of Wildlife officers tried to tree the bear Tuesday, then chased it on foot, said spokesman Michael Seraphin.

Seraphin tells the Colorado Springs Gazette the bear was about 18 months old and likely was on its first solo outing after leaving its den for the summer.

The bear was tagged and relocated at least 100 miles away.
