Getting your player ready...
Looking for a shot in the arm, and needing a starter for Saturday after deciding not to bring Greg Reynolds back on short rest, the Rockies will turn to Double-A Tulsa fireballer Juan Nicasio. The Denver Post’s Troy E. Renck takes a look at Nicasio, a 24-year-old Dominican right-hander:
Pitches: Fastball, slider, changeup.
Pluses: Fastball ranges from 94 to 100 mph with late life.
Minuses: Slider is a below-average pitch at this point.
X factor: Improved changeup. Can now repeat the pitch.
Tulsa stats: 5-1, 2.22 ERA, 63 strikeouts in 56 2/3 innings.
Future: For now, he’s expected to keep the seat warm for Aaron Cook’s return June 3 in San Francisco.
