CHEYENNE, Wyo.—A Colorado man has been sentenced to 30 months in prison on a conviction of mail fraud in what authorities say was a multi-state scam that defrauded investors who thought they were investing in oil and gas ventures.
In addition to imposing prison time, U.S. District Judge Alan B. Johnson of Cheyenne last week ordered 50-year-old Jay L. LeBoeuf (luh-BOOF’), of Parker, Colo., to make restitution of $492,000. The judge also ordered him to repay more than $1.3 million he owes from earlier ventures in Colorado.
Federal prosecutors say LeBoeuf established New Castle Energy in Cheyenne in 2008 after Colorado authorities ordered him to stop soliciting investors there.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission recently filed a separate federal complaint against LeBoeuf in Wyoming charging he violated securities laws.
