A 30 percent chance of rain could dampen holiday plans in Denver this weekend, and afternoon showers in the mountains may give way to overnight snow showers.
The weekend weather in Colorado may be a tad wet and a little colder than usual. But warmer weather is on the way, which could cause flooding in parts of the state this upcoming week, the National Weather Service warns.
Memorial Day weekend weather kicked off to a pleasant start, with mostly sunny skies in Denver today.
Denver stands a chance for showers and thunderstorms on Saturday and Sunday. The high temperature in the city should top out at about 67 degrees on Saturday and 68 degrees on Sunday, the weather service reports.
On Monday, Memorial Day, skies in Denver will be mostly sunny and the high should hit 70 degrees.
In the mountains this weekend campers should be ready for a slight chance of rain or snow showers through Sunday night.
Severe weather is not anticipated, but temperatures in the mountains will be below average, so campers should brace for the cold. Overnight lows at some higher elevations will dip into the 30s.
On Monday, a dry, warning trend will start and continue through the week, raising the chance of potential flooding, the weather service warns.
By mid-week, temperatures will be above average, including possible 80 degree readings in some lower mountain valleys. Meanwhile, overnight lows in the mountains will remain above freezing and the combination will kick start a steady run off of the “extensive” snowpack.
Low lying areas along rivers and creek may start flooding the first few days of June, the weather service reports.
Heavy snowpack in the north and central mountains is already causing high creek and river flows in Grand, Summit and Jackson counties.
