LONGMONT, Colo.—A group has formed to determine interest in carving out parts of Boulder and southwest Weld counties to create St. Vrain County, Colorado’s 65th..

The Longmont Times-Call reports the proposed county would generally follow the St. Vrain Valley School District’s boundaries. The district includes all or parts of Longmont, Niowt, Dacono, Erie, Frederick, Firestone and Dacono.

Wes Whiteley of Citizens for St. Vrain County says the group thinks the priorities of Boulder and Weld counties are out of synch with the St. Vrain Valley.

The group has filed paperwork listing it as an issue committee with the Colorado secretary of state and the Longmont city clerk.

The city of Broomfield became Colorado’s 64th county in November 2001. The city previously was divided among four counties: Adams, Boulder, Jefferson and Weld.
