Police arrested a woman suspected of kidnapping a 4-year-old girl from a Denver mosque on Friday.

At 1:19 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a kidnapping at the Colorado Muslim Society Mosque at 2071 S. Parker Road, according to a news release from the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses saw the girl less than 20 minutes before playing at a playground outside of the mosque. Mosque surveillance cameras show an unknown woman picking up the child and heading southbound on Parker Road.

The girls parents said they did not know who the woman was.

At 3:45 p.m., police said the girl’s mother received a call from a man claiming that he was with the missing girl and an a woman who had returned to the mosque.

The girl was safely returned to her family.

Police arrested 33-year-old Aziza Mukhtar. She faces one charge of second-degree kidnapping.
