Michael Edward Shaw, 31, of Northglenn, was arrested in Longmont today on suspicion of stealing mail from the mailboxes in a Denver apartment building last month.
“He was in possession of several stolen items at the time of his arrest,” Denver police said in a media release.
A surveillance video captured crisp photos of a man alleged to be Shaw unscrewing light bulbs in the foyer, then breaking a lock on the main door of about 20 apartment mailboxes in the Jackson Street Apartments on May 17.
The thief carried away the stolen mail in a trash can from the lobby.
Shaw is being held at the Boulder County Jail for investigation of burglary, criminal trespass and possible federal charges related to taking mail.
Police announced last week that Shaw was a suspect, but his whereabouts were unknown. A tip led to today’s arrest, police said in a statement.
He has been arrested numerous times in the metro region, including charges of theft, forgery, drug offenses and drunken driving, according to court records. He was divorced in Arapahoe County in 2008, records show.
Records list Shaw’s job as an “agent” for a Northglenn construction and demolition company, which occupies the same address as his home.
