A Weld County sheriff’s deputy and his canine partner dog escaped serious injuries Saturday when their patrol car collided with a car driven by an alleged drunken driver, the sheriff’s office said Tuesday.

The deputy, David Clarke, 42, was at the intersection of 35th Avenue and 4th Street when another car ran a flashing red light and collided with his patrol car.

Clarke was trapped inside the vehicle but not injured. He was removed from the car by Greeley firefighters. His dog was taken to an emergency veterinarian, and his injures were not serious.

The driver of the car was identified as Matt Larson, 47, of Greeley. He was taken to North Colorado Medical Center, where he was treated and released with minor injuries.

Larson was accused of driving under the influence, in addition to other traffic charges.
