Robert Warburton was a connoisseur of fine eyewear, stealing only the most expensive sunglasses, said Denver police Sgt. Kevin Carroll. But Warburton, 58, slipped up when when he raided a Sunglass Hut wearing a name tag with letters large enough to be seen without a magnifying glass, Carroll said, as “An employee saw the name tag.”

Warburton, arrested April 28, is suspected of stealing glasses from shops in Cherry Creek, Denver Pavilions and Park Meadow malls.

Five pairs of the sunglasses were worth $1,500, said Police District 3 Cmdr. Kris Kroncke. Warburton sold the glasses to a pawnshop in Westminster, authorities said.

Warburton is charged with theft of more than $1,000. Tom McGhee, The Denver Post
