A $29,000 grant has been made to the American Indian College Fund to support Native scholarships through the Tribal Scholars Healthcare Program, the CIGNA Foundation said today.

The scholarships will go to junior or senior students studying pre-medicine or pharmaceutical, nursing, dentistry or health technology at schools in Colorado, Arizona, Washington or California.

Also eligible are students in Arizona, Washington and Wisconsin who are studying behavioral science, public health, social science, chemical dependency, pre-nursing and pre-health information management.

“We are excited to provide this grant to offer scholarships for American Indian students to pursue critical health and science educational opportunities,” said Gianna Jackson, executive director of the CIGNA Foundation.

“We realize that there are disparities in the U.S. health care system and strive to reduce these across all populations through awareness and targeted businesses and charitable programs,” she added.Howard Pankratz: 303-954-1939 or hpankratz@denverpost.com.
