Chicago-based insurer CNA said Wednesday it plans to fill a new Western Service Center in Lone Tree with 300 positions.

CNA, which already had 50 workers underwriting policies in the area, has been hiring for the center since last fall. It celebrated the center’s opening with an open house for agents and brokers Wednesday.

The company expects to fill another 100 to 150 positions by the end of next year, said Tim Moehlenpah, CNA’s branch vice president.

Although some involve relocations, most will be local hires. Jobs are available for claims examiners, claims support, policy raters, call- center workers and billings and collections. The company didn’t disclose the pay range of the positions being offered.

Moehlenpah said CNA hired an outside consultant to scout locations for a new center. Denver won out for a variety of reasons, including worker expertise, housing affordability, work- life balance and its colleges and universities.

“Denver was selected because of the quality of its workforce,” he said.

CNA plans to boost its profile in the community through sponsorships and other support for nonprofits, Moehlenpah said. The Komen Race for the Cure and the Food Bank of the Rockies are already receiving support.

The company has about 50,000 square feet on the second and third floors at ParkRidge Four at 10375 Park Meadows Drive and plans to put its logo on the building.

CNA, founded in 1897, is the country’s seventh-largest provider of commercial insurance coverage and the 13th-largest property and casualty insurer.

Its policies cover businesses, not households, and the industries the firm has a focus on include construction, health care and technology.

CNA has had a presence in metro Denver since about 1980.
