An ambulance crash in Denver last night sent one man to the hospital after firefighters had to extricate him from the rig.

At 10:22 p.m., an AMR ambulance collided with a railroad bridge support beam near Alameda Avenue and Santa Fe Drive, said Sonny Jackson, spokesman for the Denver Police Department.

The driver of the ambulance, who has not been identified, was trapped in the wreckage and the Denver Fire Department was called to extricate him.

The man was taken to Denver Health Medical Center with serious injuries, Jackson said.

There were no patients on board when the accident happened.

Traffic investigators are investigating the cause of the accident, Jackson said.
