It speaks to his body of work that Todd Helton’s four-hit performance Wednesday in San Diego didn’t tie a career high. It did, however, elevate a sagging offense. Helton finished a triple shy of the cycle, and his eighth home run tied his total last season. Helton, who has a shot to the make the All-Star Game, is batting .316 with 25 RBIs.

Starter unable to finish.

Padres starting pitcher Dustin Moseley left the game after appearing to separate his nonthrowing left shoulder with an awkward swing. He will undergo an MRI today.
