The University of Colorado’s Joe Bosshard finished eighth in the 10,000 meters Friday at the NCAA outdoor track and field championships in Des Moines, Iowa, earning All-American status, the third time in his college career.

Bosshard finished in 28 minutes, 41.56 seconds, 10 seconds better than his previous personal best.

Leonard Korir of Iona won with a time of 28:07.63.

“I’m pretty satisfied with how it went,” Bosshard said. “We kind of knew the top three going into it and we let them go around the 5K mark. I did my work leading that second pack and I might have pushed it too hard, costing me a place or two at the end, but I’m happy with it.”

Justin Tyner of Air Force is also an All-American after an eighth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:40.83.

CU gets Texas prep standout.

Colorado football coach Jon Embree hopes he uncovered another recruiting gem this week by signing D.D. Goodson, a fleet, 5-foot-7, 170-pound running back and kick returner from Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg, Texas, according to . Goodson, who is eligible for the 2011 season, comes from the same school as Oregon State brothers Jacquizz (5-foot-6) and James Rodgers (5-7). Goodson had planned to become a preferred walk-on at future WAC member Texas-San Antonio before CU offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy became impressed with Goodson’s game films, according to the recruiting-based website.

• Wyoming head coach Dave Christensen announced that redshirt freshman quarterback Emory Miller Jr. will not return to the program this fall for personal reasons.

Miller, of Mesquite, Texas, redshirted the 2010 season but was listed as a co-starter, with true freshman Brett Smith, at the conclusion of spring practice.

True freshman Adam Pittser will join Smith in the competition for the starting quarterback position when fall camp opens in August.

Springs schools juggle coaches.

J’on St. Clair will coach a boys basketball team again, and Doherty announced the new head of its boys’ hoops team.

The only surprise is that this involves two separate positions. St. Clair will slide from the Doherty girls program to the Cheyenne Mountain boys team, and Doherty chose James Lane to take over for Dan Mc- Kiernan, who resigned unexpectedly last month.

Jennings second in USA swim.

Christine Jennings of Longmont finished second in the women’s 10-kilometer race at the USA Swimming Open Water National Championships off Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Jennings qualified for the world championships, which serves as the Olympic Trials for the 2012 London Games.
