FORT COLLINS, Colo.—A Loveland man shot a Fort Collins police officer on Christmas Day 2009 faces 16 to 128 years in prison after taking a plea deal.

The Coloradoan reports 25-year-old Andrew Nardello pleaded guilty Friday to two counts of first-degree attempted murder of a police officer and one count of first-degree burglary. Ten other counts against him were dismissed.

Police say that on the night of the shooting, roommates of Nardello’s ex-girlfriend had called police to say there were signs of an intrusion in their home. Police reports say that when officers entered the ex-girlfriend’s bedroom, Nardello began firing shots, including three that struck officer Allen Heaton. Officers returned fire, striking Nardello in the shoulder.

Nardello is scheduled to be sentenced July 25.
