BASALT, Colo.—Eagle County Coroner Kara Bettis has identified a man found in the Roaring Fork River on Sunday as a 62-year-old man from Basalt.
Bettis said an autopsy Tuesday showed that Thomas Nead Vermilyea drowned.
A swift water rescue crew recovered the body Sunday after witnesses reported seeing the victim in the western Colorado river.
Police say it is unknown why the man was in the river.
Basalt Police Chief Roderick O’Connor said the incident appeared to be an accidental drowning.
