DENVER—A Colorado foundation is offering nearly $10 million to four Colorado school districts to develop evaluation systems and new state academic standards to find excellent teachers.
Most of the money from the Colorado Legacy Foundation is from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Other donations came from JPMorgan Chase and local contributors.
Legacy foundation president Helayne Jones tells the Denver Post that the foundation is looking for excellent schools to learn from them to create models of effective teaching. Denver Public Schools has already been selected because the district has been working with the Gates Foundation, but three other districts will be competing for the rest of the money.
