SAGUACHE — A Colorado grand jury has found no wrongdoing in November’s election in Saguache County, where two Republicans declared winners on election night later lost when it was discovered that 200 mail-in ballots had not been properly counted.
A grand-jury report released by the attorney general’s office Tuesday notes that investigators found some procedural irregularities and deviations from election laws common in small counties but none that rise to criminal charges. The report notes the irregularities didn’t affect the final results.
Melinda Myers and Linda Joseph, both Democrats, were declared winners in the races for county clerk and recorder and county commissioner, respectively, three days after the Nov. 2 election.
Defeated commissioner candidate Steven Carlson said in a letter that the report has severe deficiencies and improperly focuses on human error.
