SEATTLE — The Angels have given up on struggling left-handed pitcher Scott Kazmir, releasing the once-promising starter.
Kazmir was released by the Angels on Wednesday as they closed a three- game series in Seattle.
Once considered among the top young starters in baseball, Kazmir has seen a rapid descent.
He made his fifth rehab start Tuesday night at Triple-A Salt Lake and gave up six runs on five hits in just 1 2/3 innings.
Astros’ Lyon back on DL
HOUSTON — Astros reliever Brandon Lyon was placed on the 15-day disabled list with tendinitis in his right biceps less than a week after returning from his first trip to the DL.
Nishioka off DL
MINNEAPOLIS — The Twins reinstated shortstop Tsuyoshi Nishioka from the 60-day DL.
• Joe Mauer’s return to the Twins lineup has been set for Friday.
