A university-record 10 students at the University of Colorado at Boulder will pursue study abroad in the 2011-12 academic year as winners of Fulbright grants.

The recipients will fan out to destinations such as Macau, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Bulgaria and Indonesia to pursue a variety of studies, including plant-soil-microbe interactions in subarctic crops and ancient social interactions through archaeological excavations.

Fulbright students earn their grants by displaying academic and professional achievement and leadership potential. The 65-year-old program operates in 155 countries.

CU-Boulder students have won 119 such grants since 1978 but never this many in a single year.
