GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A 30-year-old man has been convicted of killing his father with a hatchet.

Jerry D. Snider Jr. was convicted Tuesday of murder and aggravated robbery in the death of his father, Jerry Snider Sr. of Rangely.

According to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, the trial was held in Glenwood Springs because of publicity.

Snider was accused of striking his father in the head nine times with a hatchet. He was also accused of stealing his wallet, credit cards and truck.

He pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

Snider is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 9.
