A 26-year-old Silverthorne man must pony up $28,105.94 for the Summit County Sheriff’s patrol cruiser he rear-ended on March 11 when he was driving drunk.
Scott Ryan Sanchez also must spend 90 days in jail, plus $4,332.50 fines and fees in connection with the case, the Sheriff’s Department said today.
The cruiser was parked on the side of the road with its flashers on the night Sanchez drove his Toyota 4Runner into the back and drove it into the vehicle the deputy had pulled over along U.S. Highway 6 near Cemetery Road.
The deputy was outside the vehicle attending to an unrelated drunken driving case and wasn’t hurt in the crash.
Prosecutors dismissed several charges against Sanchez, including driving without a license, driving an unregistered vehicle and failure to show proof of insurance, court records show.
