A health advisory has been issued by the state for wide parts of southern Colorado because of wildfire smoke.
A “smoke health advisory” has been issued by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment for several southern Colorado cities including Pueblo, Walsenburg, Trinidad, La Junta and Ordway.
The advisory was posted at 10 a.m. today and will run through 7 a.m. Thursday.
“Periods of moderate to heavy smoke from the Track Fire on Raton Ridge could move into southern Colorado,” the state warns.
Smoke and particulates in the area could reach “unhealthy” levels for sensitive groups — people with heart or lung disease, seniors and children.
Smoke could be moderate to heavy in areas today and tonight.
In areas where smoke limits visibility to less than five miles, people are urged to stay indoors as a safety precaution.
The fire has charred more than 24,000 acres along the border of New Mexico and Colorado.
