A woman accused of stabbing two men — one of them fatally — at her home near Erie is being held in Weld County Jail on $400,000 bail.

Karen Elaine Cordova, 48, was arrested Monday on suspicion of second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder. She is to be formally charged today.

Cordova told police the men broke into her home, in the 5200 block of Buffalo Road, where she grows medical marijuana. Stephen Erikson, 34, of Erie was critically injured, and Kyle Dust, 31, of Longmont died at the scene.

Though the stabbings apparently happened Saturday morning, Dust’s body was not found until Monday. While Erie police were investigating Erikson’s stabbing, they were told that another person was likely dead at the house just outside town limits. On Monday, the Police Department handed the case over to the Weld County Sheriff’s Office; investigators found Dust’s body near Cordova’s home.
