An Aurora police officer was taken to the hospital this afternoon after a vehicle ran a stop sign and slammed into his patrol car.
Shortly after 12:30 p.m., the officer was driving southbound on Dayton Street when a vehicle traveling westbound on 12th Avenue ran a stop sign and smashed into the marked car, according to the Aurora Police Department.
The vehicle rolled on its side and the two people inside had to be extricated by firefighters. Both were released at the scene.
The officer had burns to his arms from an airbag deployment and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Both the patrol car and the vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
The driver, who has not been identified, was cited at the scene.
The name of the officer has not been released.
