A group of college students who grew up in Boulder is soliciting donations in an attempt to save the Paper Doll pig.
When the Pearl Street card and gift store announced last month that it would be closing after 19 years, it also put its iconic rocking pig up for sale via silent auction.
Now, there’s a website — savethepearlstreetpig.com — dedicated to preserving the pig for the community.
“Every born and bred Boulderite has at least a couple memories of riding on the Paper Doll Pig as their parents watched and issued words of encouragement,” the website says. “When we heard the Paper Doll was closing and this Boulder icon was now for sale, we jumped. We are the children of Boulder, who grew up riding and watching others ride the pig.”
