A 13-year-old girl from California will arrive in Denver next week with hopes of saving her right hand. Hannele Cox accidentally cut herself on a small fish tank five years ago and acquired a rare flesh eating bacteria. It is so rare, doctors in California told her there’s nothing they can do about it.
Cox is expected to meet with Doctors at National Jewish Hospital. The hospital has specialists who deal with this sort of bacteria.
“I’m trying to stay happy and laugh,” Hannele said.
The fish tank she cut herself on was filled with a few freshwater fish. No one knew it carried flesh-eating bacteria.
