For the first time since the recession, Denver-based Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. is raising its menu prices in the Northeast and Southeast over the next few weeks, with changes in other markets to follow, the company says.

The burrito chain hasn’t had a round of price increases in about three years.

It is now facing higher commodities costs, especially for beef, which have made it difficult for many chains to maintain strong profit margins.

Chipotle previously said it would raise prices on its menu in the second half of the year because of food cost inflation.

But the chain is also under labor-related cost pressure because of immigration probes at its restaurants in several states.
