The owner of a Jefferson County envelope manufacturer was killed this afternoon when an alcove used for storage collapsed, crushing him.
The incident occurred at Alpine Envelope, 16010 W. 5th Ave in Golden. The 46-year-old man, whose identity has not been released, had spoken to his daughter on the phone minutes before. She discovered the collapse when she arrived with his lunch at 1:33 p.m. said Golden Fire Department spokeswoman Karlyn Tilley.
It took 20 minutes for firefighters to move boxes and debris they could find the man’s body. They tried to resucitate him but were unsuccessful, Tilley said.
Authorities were still at the scene after 3 p.m., carefully removing propane tanks and chemicals found in the plant.
“It’s just a very dangerous situation,” Tilley said.
The company’s website says it has been in business since 1995, custom manufacturing envelopes.
Authorities are investigating to determine how the storage area collapsed, and whether it was properly built and permitted, Tilley said.
