GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—The Lands End fire board has asked its attorneys to negotiate a contract for services with the Grand Junction Fire Department after the fire chief quit to move to Texas.

The fire department recently was forced to ask for help from the Grand Junction Fire Department after the Lands End department was unable to find the manpower for its own ambulance to help a woman suffering an asthma attack.

The department, which relies on volunteers, has no assistant chief or officers, and the board of directors has just two members. Board Chairman Myron Barker tells the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel that the board has no intention of dissolving the district.
