A $1 million bond has been set for the man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting an 8-year-old Denver girl on June 2 and running from the law.

Bret Lee Luckett Thompson, 27, was checked into the Denver County Detention Center about 1:15 p.m. Friday. He appeared in a Denver courtroom at 10 a.m. today and has been charged with felony second degree kidnapping and felony sexual assault on a child.

Thompson also faces a federal charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, according to the FBI.

Thompson was arrested in North Brunswick, N.J. on June 13 after authorities found him sleeping in his van behind a Walmart.
