Two people suspected of robbing an Aurora cell phone store, then hitting an employee with their getaway car, were arrested at separate motels located within blocks of the store, police said today.
Jake Morales, 22, and Amanda N. Blankenship, 25, were taken into custody Saturday night and charged with aggravated robbery. Blankenship also was charged with second-degree assault, according to Aurora police Sgt. Cassidee Carlson.
Police were called to a cell phone store on the 15000 block of East Colfax Avenue around noon on June 21.
Witnesses said a man had entered the store, stolen merchandise and ran off.
When a store employee chased the man, a vehicle driven by a woman hit the employee. The man then got into the car — described as a mid-90s, tan 4-door sedan — and the female driver sped away, police said.
On Saturday night, an Aurora patrol officer recognized one of the suspects and located the suspect vehicle at a motel in the 15600 block of East Colfax Avenue, Carlson said.
Blankenship was located and arrested at that motel. Morales was arrested a short time later at a motel in the 11200 block of East Colfax, Carlson said.
