The man who caused a head-on collision south of Boulder that left a former Old Chicago manager with lifelong mental and physical impairments was sentenced Monday to 18 years in prison.
Debra Arnold, 43, was driving a Hyundai Sonata eastbound on Marshall Drive in November 2010 when a Cadillac driven by Stacy Torrez, 45, of Brighton, crossed into the eastbound lanes and struck her head-on.
A sheriff’s deputy tried to pull Torrez over for speeding just before the accident. Police said Torrez was driving around 80 miles an hour and was high on methamphetamines at the time.
Arnold spent months in a coma and continues to suffer from serious mental and physical deficits, her family told the court Monday.
