BOULDER, Colo.—Two Colorado organizations have been chosen to receive up to $700,000 each from the Department of Energy for research on wind power.

The DOE says Boulder Wind Power will test a new magnet-based generator. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden will test a new design that could increase output from current generators.

The projects are among six announced Tuesday by U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu to provide more than $7 million over two years
