The Broomfield City Council on Tuesday night approved the promotion of Jim Candelarie as Broomfield City and County Clerk and Recorder. Candelarie succeeds Russ Ragsdale, who retired in March.

After Ragsdale’s retirement, Candelarie was appointed Acting City and County Clerk and assumed the administrative responsibility for and coordination of the divisions of the department, which includes city clerk, central records, motor vehicle and elections.

Candelarie served as Broomfield administrator of elections and recording for the time he came to Broomfield in July 2001. He was responsible for recording legal documents and developed recording policies and procedures for Broomfield.

Prior to his tenure with Broomfield, Candelarie worked in the Colorado Secretary of State’s office from 1998 to 2001 as an election professional. He was also chief deputy clerk and recorder for Adams County from 1989 to 1998.
