The Coffintop Fire burning northwest of Lyons is 20 acres in size and 10 percent contained this morning, according to officials at the scene.

The fire was ignited Wednesday afternoon by a lightning strike, and flames have caused the county to close Hall Ranch Open Space. The fire had been estimated to be 40 acres earlier this morning, but U.S. Forest Service officials now say it’s only 20 acres in size.

The U.S. Forest Service has taken command of the fire, and so far, mandatory evacuation orders have not been issued.

Laura McConnell, public information officer for the Coffintop Fire, said four crews are battling the fire today and two helicopters are available to assist.
