DETROIT — A person familiar with the plans of Michigan Rep. Thaddeus McCotter says the Republican congressman will make a “major announcement” Saturday about whether he will run for president in next year’s election.
His office says he’ll be the keynote speaker that day at a festival in Whitmore Lake.
A person in contact with the Livonia congressman said Thursday that McCotter will address whether he’ll seek the GOP presidential nomination. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the person isn’t authorized to discuss McCotter’s plans.
McCotter, 45, is a lawyer and has served as a state senator, Wayne County commissioner and Schoolcraft Community College trustee before entering the U.S. House in 2003. He told WJR-AM in Detroit on May 25 that he was seriously considering a presidential run. The Associated Press
