Rapidly changing and variable weather is standard in Denver during most of the year. During July, however, the weather pattern is pretty consistent on a day-to-day basis. Mornings in Denver will start out sunny with clouds beginning to build by mid- to late afternoon. Thunderstorms will also develop at times over the foothills, and some of these storms will reach Denver and surrounding areas. Given ideal atmospheric conditions, these storms can become severe with large hail, damaging winds and very heavy rainfall. These thunderstorms also tend to be slow-moving, so the threat of flash flooding is also higher.
July is the stormiest month of year in Denver, with storms occurring 11 days out of the month, on average.
Last July, 3.7 inches of rain fell in Denver, which almost broke into the top 10 wettest Julys. This total was 1.54 inches above normal for the month. July 2010 was also a warm month, but again, not quite warm enough to make the top 10. The average temperature last July in Denver was 74.4 degrees, which was 1 degree above normal. Thunderstorms were reported 14 times at Denver International Airport in July 2010, with one of them producing small hail on July 4.
