An autistic boy walked away from his Jefferson County home this morning but was found safe nearby a short-time later.
The 7-year-old, a “highly functioning” autistic boy, was found at about 8 a.m. near the intersection of West 6th Avenue and Indiana Street, said Jacki Kelly, a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.
The boy was returned to his nearby home and united with his family, Kelly said.
Investigators do not expect to pursue any charges in incident, Kelly said.
