The Coffintop Fire remains at 70 percent containment Friday morning, and crews plan to spend the day doing mop-up and strengthening containment lines, U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Laura McConnell said.

Thursday’s rains aided firefighters’ efforts, but lightning strikes continue to pose a threat, McConnell said. Crews remain on high alert.

The size of the fire has been revised based on GPS coordinates to 29.5 acres.

There currently are 150 personnel and two helicopters assigned to the fire. McConnell said firefighters will start to be demobilized this afternoon.
