COLORADO SPRINGS — A man believed to be 30 years old died Thursday night after being shot in the chest and stumbling down a nearby sidewalk, leaving a trail of blood that ended at a house where he sought help.
“This was just the saddest thing in the world,” said Beverly Luedecke, who called 911 about 11:20 p.m. after the man pounded on her front door.
The man died at a Colorado Springs hospital, leaving investigators with the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit to comb through a crime scene near Calvary Baptist Church, 1712 S. Corona Ave.
Eight bullet casings from a handgun were found by police outside the northwest corner of the church, which is about a quarter-mile southeast of Interstate 25 and Nevada Avenue, police Sgt. Richard Pantle said.
