BOULDER, Colo.—Boulder’s new license-plate reader is helping the city rake in the cash.

During its first month, the reader has caught 101 violators who owe more than $20,000 in unpaid tickets.

The city bought the system for $46,000 last year, and put it into service in May.

Assistant parking services manager Eric Guenther says a single officer writes between 45 and 65 tickets each day, while the new reader has been checking an average of 3,000 license plates per day.

According to the Boulder Daily Camera, Guenther said he expects to find many more of the 80,000 people who are currently on the city’s scofflaw list.
