An 11-year-old Parker boy was honored today for acting to help save a friend in the community pool.
William Westfall was in the Sunmarke Community Recreation Center pool in Parker on June 3 when he saw 4-year-old Logan Gilliand on the bottom, South Metro Fire Rescue said in a news release.
William grabbed Logan and got him to the side of the pool, where adults took over the rescue.
Today South Metro Fire Rescue gave William an award for his actions.
Logan was there, too.
Firefighter/Paramedic Steve Whitehead, who treated Logan at the scene, was on hand.
Whitehead said in the release that trying to rescue a person who is drowning isn’t always the safest option, but William’s efforts helped create a happy ending.
